I have no experience with true buffaloes, but a bison will fuck you up, man. You should be afraid of them.

(Anonymous) 2016-12-04 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Lol, this.

(Anonymous) 2016-12-04 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean they do have a point about them not being sexy tho, like, there's a reason the sexy were-bison is not a staple of B movie horror films

So much this. I used to board my horse at a ranch that raised bison, and let me fucking tell you you do not want to fuck with bison. It's been more than ten years since I set foot on that ranch and I still have nightmares about those fucking bison.

Cape buffalo are apparently called 'Black Death' and kill more hunters than any animal in all of Africa. They can attack and kill hunting lions, as well.

..do you think the cartoon beast is sexy looking? I mean he literally looks like a buffalo in that, too.

(Anonymous) 2016-12-04 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't ever even think cartoon-human!beast was goodlooking! It was weird. He was still ugly even after being turned human.

He looked more like a cross between a bear and a lion to me personally. Wasn't sexy to me, but then I don't go for the big ol' hairy muscle man types myself.

Not OP, but I think the Disney cartoon's design for the Beast is handsome. I wouldn't say sexy, but he's definitely handsome, whereas with the image OP chose of the live action Beast...the face is too flat and overall not as welcoming.

(Anonymous) 2016-12-04 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
That is the problem liveaction versions of cartoons will always have, the uncanny valley is always going to be a killer thing.

Although I must admit the best Beast was Ron Perlman because they didn't go overboard on the prosthetics and fx.

(Anonymous) 2016-12-04 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed completely with Ron Perlman's Beast.

(Anonymous) 2016-12-04 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, he looks weird :/

(Anonymous) 2016-12-04 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Personally, I quite like that he's not like, furry-material or something like that, just because I like the realism. The story is about seeing past someone's looks. Then again, he doesn't cross into uncanny valley for me. I get not wanting to see a beast-thing that's supposed to become an object of love if you find the beast-thing to be really creepy-looking.

(Anonymous) 2016-12-04 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I wished he looked the same way Terrence Mann did on Broadway and almost every other Beast from the Broadway show. Hollywood should go back to practical makeup and not rely heavily on CG.

(Anonymous) 2016-12-04 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
People who are not furries found the Beast sexy? Yikes.

(Anonymous) 2016-12-04 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't find his looks sexy at all, but I did purr over the voice acting.

I wish he looked less people and had a fully inhuman profile.

(Anonymous) 2016-12-04 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
He just looks really wooden in all of these promotional materials. Like, I think he has the same exact expression in this photo and another one of them dancing. It's the eyes. The animated Beast had really expressive eyes (advantage of being animated).

(Anonymous) 2016-12-04 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
(but it is fair to complain about his beastly eyes though?)

Well the cartoon Beast did look kinda like a buffalo so it's pretty accurate.

So, does anyone know why they cast mostly British actors?

(Anonymous) 2016-12-05 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Wasn't the animated film supposed to be set in France (even though they had mostly American voice actors)?

Re: So, does anyone know why they cast mostly British actors?

(Anonymous) 2016-12-05 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
I figured it's for the same reasons why British actors are cast in so many American TV shows and movies: decent acting skills + reasonable salary, it's good bang for your buck.

Re: So, does anyone know why they cast mostly British actors?

(Anonymous) 2016-12-05 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
So this obviously isn't the case for British audiences, but to an American audience, a British accent is often shorthand for a bunch of weird class related shit. Like, unless it's a Cockney accent, Americans hear British accents and think "upper class." British accents also end up standing for "generic pan-European blob country" because Americans don't do well when asked to read subtitles and can't be arsed to learn anything but English. And if British accent =/= "generic pan-European blob country," then it's often used as a "generic fantasyland" accent. Sometimes both in one movie. Since British tv has a wider following here than it uses to, I think that's changing, but it might help explain the preponderance of Brits.

I will go see this, but I KNOW it's not ever gonna be better than the original animated film. The voices alone are a bit jarring.

But that Beast design...WHY the longer horns, why the semi-humanish looking face? I mean, even the old BatB tv show with Ron Pearlman kept his face very very animalish (and he was still attractive despite the look).

From the neck down, I'm fine with the design. It's just the head. And teh voice isn't as deep as Robbie Coltrane's...:C

Emme LOOKS the part, but I still hear Hermione.
