I was a Hermione at school, high achiever with a know it all attitude as well as being awkward looking with hair that just did its own thing. I read the books late compared to most fans (the films were already in full swing) and I have to admit that at first I did have that "how DARE they take that away from my inner awkward nerdy kid!me" when I interpreted the films as really prettying up Hermione/Emma.

But I sat down and thought about it and if I'm honest school-aged me would've given *anything* to still have my book smarts but also be as nicely styled as Hermione from about film four onwards. So...I don't actually know what to think now. I guess I don't really have a problem with it ultimately because if I'm going to project on Hermione, it's another form of wish fulfilment anyway.

And I do get that it's a problem that Hollywood can't stand an unconventional looking woman so even the "weird" girls are still conventionally attractive underneath it all. I'm just saying that teenage me would've snapped your hand off if you'd offered me the chance to look as put together as Emma Watson. I don't feel bad admitting that.

Movie!Hermione is pretty much pure wish fulfillment all around, anyway.

I think people are mostly upset about taking away from the realism of the character. In real life people who spend insane amounts of hours studying don't look perfectly polished 24/7 with clothes that fit just right.
