Hi, OP here. I feel like you're all kinda misunderstanding what I'm trying to say here.

The park worship is only one part of the Disney fandom that I don't like. Other parts are things like people being really into ugly merchandise (really? disney princess bedsheets for anyone over 20?) or posting meta that has holds the insight of a 12-year-old. I made few incredibly cheesy edits to make any new content and behold, fandom people liked them sincerely. This is stuff that I still feel embarrasment towards and would never ever post on my main blog. I've even noticed that some posts that I've made seriously, got tagged as hate, because god forbid anyone who doesn't praise Disney like a giddy child must be a hater. These are the people who would like the Disney equivalent of a three wolf moon shirt unironically.

And I'm not saying that people should grow out of their hobbies or adults shouldn't have childlike enjoyment of things. Just please, try to incorporate some matured adult sense and taste to your hobbies. And stop visiting the face characters. They're just tacky and creepy if you're not a 4-year-old.

And speaking as not only a former cast member and former Princess, but also a girl who grew up quite literally in Disney's backyard, as long as you're not a creepster about it, we love all ages coming to meet us. You don't know people's stories and why they love that character so much. You don't know if that's a mom who lost a princess loving daughter or a man who spent his childhood in a hospital with a disease he was supposed to die of and a your character was his favorite in the movie he watched a million times from bed. Or if the awkward wan has a disability and it's her first trip or if you character quite literally is the only thing keeping the semingly shy man going because he's battling major depression.
The world fucking sucks and if someone can get some pure and innocent joy out of a fictional character at a theme park, then chase that joy, man.

(really? disney princess bedsheets for anyone over 20?)......And Stop visiting the face characters.

I just don't see why you care so much as long as people aren't behaving inappropriately. It might not be something you do, and I definitely agree that some adult Disney fans are really stupid.

Because I was wishing for a more critical and interesting fandom. Material from the development stage of the movies is great when it gets passed around and I love the fandom detectives digging up new stuff, but everything else... I just wish that people would fan the movies and animation and not the dreamlike perfect Disney franchise.

OH, okay. That makes sense, and honestly ....... a lot of Disney fandom on tumblr is a damn mess. Nobody wants to think about anything and when they do , a lot of it is entry level social justice.

(Anonymous) 2016-12-05 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
I mean, I assume one of the reasons some of these people are in the Disney fandom in the first place is the "dreamlike perfect Disney" escapism though.

people being really into ugly merchandise (really? disney princess bedsheets for anyone over 20?)

Gee, I can't imagine why people would think you're a "hater." Aside from, you know, the fact that you sound like kind of a jerk for being so judgy about a totally innocuous thing.

I'll give you a hint, OP: the one who is coming across as childish here isn't the adults who enjoy Disney stuff.

(Anonymous) 2016-12-05 08:30 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, I truly have been served.

(Anonymous) 2016-12-07 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh please, stop getting all butthurt because you got called out for being a judgmental fan-shaming jerk.

(Anonymous) 2016-12-05 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
You have ttly gotten through to me. I didn't realize at 20 I had to switch over to Approved Adult Interests like tax returns and golfing. I thought I could continue to enjoy fandom and fanfic and buying Disney Princess sheets to sleep on.

I have seen the light. No more will I assume that as an adult I can make my own decisions and choices, but I will frantically defend my fragile adultness.

Thank you OP, thank you. Could you please provide a list of Approved Adult Interests so I know what I can buy or be interested in? I'm guessing as a woman it's shoes and popping out babies.

And stop visiting the face characters. They're just tacky and creepy if you're not a 4-year-old.

I learned that the hard way. I was super into Lion King, and when I planned my Disney World trip as a 20-something, the biggest thing I wanted to do was meet the characters. I planned my whole trip around being able to do so, booking a dinner at an expensive steakhouse so I could meet Rafiki and one of the others.

When the characters came out, I was so amazingly disappointed. It was just a person in a cheap fake fur costume. (Really, I had no idea what I had expected. Even though I was 20+, I thought there would be some kind of "Disney Magic" that would make them seem more real?) The character gave me a hug, but it was so awkward and I was just so disappointed...

Wow, you're an awful and judgemental and immature as fuck person whose adultness is threatened by "childish" things like someone having what they deem unacceptable bedsheets. What, are they supposed to be gray?

You're a hater, you just don't want to admit it because you want to seem Mature.
