I mean, the parks have a lot of stuff for adults, and people who grew up on Disney aren't going to toss it away because they've grown up?

I'm not saying people can't hang on to things, but haven't you grown out of stuff? There are plenty of things I was super into when I was young that I no longer really care about past the nostalgia.
There are probably plenty of adults who grew up on Disney and tossed it away when they grew up.

That's true. I just don't see a reason to be mad at adults who didn't as long as they're being reasonable.

I read the secret as being more confused than mad, though.
Personally, I sort of get it. There are some works aimed at children that are super well-done, and I can see why people might be invested in it as an adult (or just continue being into it), but I don't quite get the Disney fanaticism.
I have some friends who are deeply into Disney, and I just... I don't know. I don't get it. I understand why people like Disney world, 'cause theme parks are fun, but not much beyond that.

I really want to go to the parks and take pictures with the characters, but that's cause I never have. My family could never afford it, so I want to go as an adult.

Same. A dream is just to spend one vacation at disneyworld by myself to just engage with everything.

(Anonymous) 2016-12-04 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Ok, I was a Disney cast member and also "a good friend" of a princess, which is Disney's way of saying I was a princess. I looooooooooved getting people their first ever visit. Any age. It was my favorite thing. But there were creeps, too. A lot. Creepy old men are the worst. But don't think for a second that you will be considered crazy or anything for going full gorilla and taking pics with characters. The good CMs either love it or don't mind and the bad ones, who would never show it, can go fuck off. Without guests, their salty asses wouldn't even have jobs.

I hope you both make it to dl or wdw or one of the non-us parks and rock the shit out of it.

It's totally worth it and highly encourage this! I had gone multiple times as a kid but when I was in my 20s, I went with a friend who had been once when he was too small to remember it. He wasn't sure about it (I was the one who really wanted to go and he just went along with it) but by the end of the day he was soooooo happy.

My advice is to do it on a weekday in the off season so that you can avoid as much of the crowds as possible and enjoy every last bit.

I've gone as an adult once in my life, but I was STILL too broke to get pictures with them. :C and time there at the parks was PRECIOUS what with Fast Passes and all at the time. So I couldn't go and wait in line in order to do that or I'd miss out on the popular rides.

(Anonymous) 2016-12-04 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
eh, i can relate to wanting to go to the parks. i like amusement parks, i like disney, it'd be cool.

that being said, i do agree that disney (along some other media primarily aimed at kids*) has a small-but-vocal subgroup of fans who need to touch some grass, and i can definitely relate to wanting to keep some distance there.

* disclaimer: I'm not saying adults can't enjoy media that isn't explicitly and solely targeted at them, nor am I saying that these fans only exist in disney and disney-like fandoms.

(Anonymous) 2016-12-04 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, this.

It's one thing enjoying, appreciating, and even immersing oneself in a particular piece of media, but the kind of fans you're talking about are the ones who seem to assume they're owed something for being a fan. Which is obnoxious enough in fandoms that ARE aimed specifically at them. But Disney/Steven Universe/whatever else... yeah. Enjoy it, go nuts over it, but keep an eye on the fact that you're not the target audience.

(Anonymous) 2016-12-04 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. Hanging on to your childhood loves can be wonderful and there's nothing inherently wrong with that.

But it can be DONE very, very wrong and if you're insisting on getting other peoples attention to your fail-fanning, you should be called out. A bronie shouldn't bring his life sized fuck pony to a My little pony-park for instance and the same goes for Disney.

(And yeah, I have written Disney porn, but I keep it to closed forums, okay? With tags and warnings and stuff too, I promise.)

I don't know what you expected.

You started a Disney-specific blog, but you hate interacting with Disney fans. 'Kay.

(Anonymous) 2016-12-05 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
Hi, OP here. I feel like you're all kinda misunderstanding what I'm trying to say here.

The park worship is only one part of the Disney fandom that I don't like. Other parts are things like people being really into ugly merchandise (really? disney princess bedsheets for anyone over 20?) or posting meta that has holds the insight of a 12-year-old. I made few incredibly cheesy edits to make any new content and behold, fandom people liked them sincerely. This is stuff that I still feel embarrasment towards and would never ever post on my main blog. I've even noticed that some posts that I've made seriously, got tagged as hate, because god forbid anyone who doesn't praise Disney like a giddy child must be a hater. These are the people who would like the Disney equivalent of a three wolf moon shirt unironically.

And I'm not saying that people should grow out of their hobbies or adults shouldn't have childlike enjoyment of things. Just please, try to incorporate some matured adult sense and taste to your hobbies. And stop visiting the face characters. They're just tacky and creepy if you're not a 4-year-old.

(Anonymous) 2016-12-05 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
And speaking as not only a former cast member and former Princess, but also a girl who grew up quite literally in Disney's backyard, as long as you're not a creepster about it, we love all ages coming to meet us. You don't know people's stories and why they love that character so much. You don't know if that's a mom who lost a princess loving daughter or a man who spent his childhood in a hospital with a disease he was supposed to die of and a your character was his favorite in the movie he watched a million times from bed. Or if the awkward wan has a disability and it's her first trip or if you character quite literally is the only thing keeping the semingly shy man going because he's battling major depression.
The world fucking sucks and if someone can get some pure and innocent joy out of a fictional character at a theme park, then chase that joy, man.

(really? disney princess bedsheets for anyone over 20?)......And Stop visiting the face characters.

I just don't see why you care so much as long as people aren't behaving inappropriately. It might not be something you do, and I definitely agree that some adult Disney fans are really stupid.

(Anonymous) 2016-12-05 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
Because I was wishing for a more critical and interesting fandom. Material from the development stage of the movies is great when it gets passed around and I love the fandom detectives digging up new stuff, but everything else... I just wish that people would fan the movies and animation and not the dreamlike perfect Disney franchise.

Gee, I can't imagine why people would think you're a "hater." Aside from, you know, the fact that you sound like kind of a jerk for being so judgy about a totally innocuous thing.

I'll give you a hint, OP: the one who is coming across as childish here isn't the adults who enjoy Disney stuff.

You have ttly gotten through to me. I didn't realize at 20 I had to switch over to Approved Adult Interests like tax returns and golfing. I thought I could continue to enjoy fandom and fanfic and buying Disney Princess sheets to sleep on.

I have seen the light. No more will I assume that as an adult I can make my own decisions and choices, but I will frantically defend my fragile adultness.

Thank you OP, thank you. Could you please provide a list of Approved Adult Interests so I know what I can buy or be interested in? I'm guessing as a woman it's shoes and popping out babies.

And stop visiting the face characters. They're just tacky and creepy if you're not a 4-year-old.

I learned that the hard way. I was super into Lion King, and when I planned my Disney World trip as a 20-something, the biggest thing I wanted to do was meet the characters. I planned my whole trip around being able to do so, booking a dinner at an expensive steakhouse so I could meet Rafiki and one of the others.

When the characters came out, I was so amazingly disappointed. It was just a person in a cheap fake fur costume. (Really, I had no idea what I had expected. Even though I was 20+, I thought there would be some kind of "Disney Magic" that would make them seem more real?) The character gave me a hug, but it was so awkward and I was just so disappointed...

(Anonymous) 2016-12-08 07:57 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, you're an awful and judgemental and immature as fuck person whose adultness is threatened by "childish" things like someone having what they deem unacceptable bedsheets. What, are they supposed to be gray?

You're a hater, you just don't want to admit it because you want to seem Mature.

(Anonymous) 2016-12-05 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's a bit weird and off putting too, OP. But there are so many Disney fans who get really defensive about how it's for all ages and how dare you, etc. etc.
