YES. This is the worst. I hate plots based on misunderstandings, especially if it involves a character overhearing a sentence fragment taken entirely out of context. They are just so fucking stupid.

This to the nth degree. Stupid misunderstandings and baseless assumptions are the bane of my reading/viewing/general existence. JUST FUCKING TALK, PEOPLE.

It's a big reason why I find season-long romance arcs to be annoying.

Stories where a character is ashamed about something and struggles to keep it secret until the secret finally gets out and they find out it wasn't a big deal to the other person after all. I'm not talking about murder or whatever, but maybe somebody avoids sex because they have erectile dysfunction that healing sex won't fix.

Sometimes the payoff is the secretive character realizing their love interest is okay with them exactly as they are. Then they can redefine sex using their mouth, fingers and sex toys instead of their dick.
