With het pairings, I've noticed I really seem to have a thing for pairings where the guy's a nerdy/intellectual/bookish sort, while the girl's more sporty and kind of the brawn of the duo (though no less smart).

With slash pairings, I've noticed many of them are interracial, and again, there's the personality difference like in het pairings, but in this case it tends to be more "nerdy guy hangs out with a flirty, more outgoing sort". And with femslash pairings, there's often something of an age difference. Nothing underage or anything of that sort-they're both full-fledged adults, and the age gap isn't SUPER wide. But it's there.

And in all pairings, be they het/slash/femslash, the people involved have a close bond-friends, co-workers, that sort of thing.

As for characters, when it comes to male characters I definitely gravitate towards the aforementioned intellectual, bookish sorts. I love that in female characters, too, but they also tend to have this "no BS" attitude about them that I love and wish I had more of :D.

This is SUCH a thing for me as well. I almost hate how much I like it but it's just so good

The funniest part is that I didn't even realize the similarity for the longest time :p! It wasn't until I was reflecting once on a pairing I loved when I was younger (Gordo/Lizzie from "Lizzie McGuire"), and it got me thinking about some of the other pairings I like and I went, "...oh...".

But yeah, I think it's the basic thing of the couple respecting each other's differences and learning to balance their respective personalities out that's a large part of the appeal for me :). They bring out the best in each other as a result, and I really like that.
