A lot of the old Gundam series (especially Gundam Wing) dealt with the whole child soldier thing quite a bit. (I can't even imagine what the people who flip their shit in the Voltron fandom would be like if Gundam Wing was a popular fandom today.)

Though on Voltron, you could argue that since there are military schools, children are being groomed as soldiers from an early age on and that could count as a sort of child soldier-esque thing.

"Military schools" like... West Point? RMC? We have military academies in the real world.

I'm not familiar with these but personally, I'd think of any school that pays a lot attention on training children for war as questionable at best.

Eh, lots of kids grow up wanting to be soldiers. Provided they don't see actual combat until an appropriate age and are allowed to release at any time at their own discretion, I don't see what's so bad about it.

This isn't rounding up 9-year-olds from a village after you've slaughtered their families, getting them hooked on drugs, handing them an AK and telling them to kill people or they'll die.

That, I agree with.

In the U.S kids can get involved in certain programs at young age. Starting in high school recruiters will begin setting you up. I think 17 is when you can get into ROTC or join any branch of the military if your parents gives consent and you have a diploma or GED. A lot of parents do give their consent because the military pays for college, health benefits, and all that.

Most fictional young soldiers or superheroes are around 16 years old and yet they are the tumblr SJW's are whining about them being child soldiers. I wonder what they have to say to all the kids and the parents who IN REAL LIFE HIGH-SCHOOL are signing up for this. Hell, both my parents joined the military at 18 and they loved it because it took care of them.

You can join Junior ROTC at 14 or 15.

I looked up West Point, and Wikipedia says it's a college. They're not training ten-year-olds to kill people.

(Honestly, my entire concept of a "military school" is based on Ender's Game. I have no other frame of reference for the idea.)

West Point is a college, RMC is for older teens.

They don't go recruiting out of fucking elementary school.

True that obnoxious anon, but Google gave me the name of a military academy near RMC that does recruit from elementary school right on the first try!

https://www.robertlandacademy.com/

And that's just Canada! Google gave me dozens in the US!

Er, I mean fucking Google gave me fucking dozens in the fucking US.

Actually the current Gundam series (Iron-Blooded Orphans) deals very explicitly with the idea of child soldiers, as the majority of the cast is made up of them. I don't think I've seen a lot of drama about it, though I don't think the fandom is that big and the subject is treated pretty seriously in canon.
