What's your favorite one hit wonder song?

(Anonymous) 2016-12-13 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)

First ones that come to mind for me are In the Year 2525 and 99 Red Balloons, but I'm probably forgetting some that I shouldn't be.

Right now? Buck's Fizz - "Making your mind up"

(Anonymous) 2016-12-14 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
ooh, Buck's Fizz - I love their "Land of Make Believe" (first heard that attached a Record of Lodoss War AMV)

(Anonymous) 2016-12-14 01:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I like Land Of Make Believe too!

They're a one hit wonder? I only know the song from the Kill Bill soundtrack.

Tough call between "Take on me" and "Come on Eileen." Classics.

On the more obscure side, I love "Groove is in the heart" and "Native New Yorker."

I love Come on Eileen too.

(Anonymous) 2016-12-14 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
I had to look up Groove is in the Heart because I thought it was done by the B-52s! I don't remember if I ever knew it wasn't them. They have a similar sound.

Dexys Midnight Runners is not strictly speaking a one hit wonder - they had a number one in the UK from their first album already when Come On Eileen was released. Also, the reason they never had a number one again is mostly because Kevin Reynolds is a contrarian dickhead who refused to release a single from their next album. Also Dexys are really good and I like them a lot so sorry about nerding about.

Haven't heard "Native New Yorker", but yes to the other three songs. Particularly "Come On Eileen" and "Groove is in the Heart". So fun.

Do you watch One Hit Wonderland with Todd in the Shadows, by any chance?

A-ha were most definitely not not one hit wonders! And yes I had a childhood crush on Morten Harket. They even did a bond theme (ok it wasn't that good but still)

Chesney Hawkes - The one and Only. Because given the title it's hilarious.

I think a lot of people would probably recognize "All the Way from Memphis" by ear even if they can't name that it's Mott the Hoople.

Mambo No. 5

Lou Bega's was the first CD I ever bought. I know almost all of the words to every song on that album.
