I've never had a meat substitute that tasted like meat, but I like some of them anyway, just on their own merits (I'm not a vegetarian, but will eat meat substitutes sometimes).

Same. I haven't had fake chicken in a while but I kind of miss it even though it's not really anything like chicken.

I grew up with meat substitutes, they were mostly gluten and peanut based. I still like them, and it not because they are anything like meat, because they aren't, they just taste good.
