Is it cold?

You might want warm but it was nearly 40 yesterday and most of my town was blacked out so they had no air con. If the blackout hit my place I'd probably be hanging out in the hospital right now with the other medically fragile people who couldn't cope.

nearly 40

*reminds self you are using Celsius lol*

ok, that's pretty hot. yikes!

I do think I'd still prefer it to below freezing though.

why did your town black out though? does heat cause that where you are?

We get most of our blackouts and brownouts in summer. Sometimes the heat is directly responsible (lines sag, generators overheat, cooling systems fail), we also get summer storms that hit power lines, and what I assume happened yesterday - everyone turned on their fans and air con at the same time to deal with the heat and the grid went nope. The section that I know for sure was out was where they've put in lots of new apartments with air conditioning and a new shopping centre.

I'm jealous if you're getting snow for christmas! I hope you're indoors and toasty warm though.

Fahrenheit is weird. Celsius makes sense. 0 is freezing point and 100 is boiling point for water.

Okay, makes sense. I mean it doesn't really get that hot here except maybe every few years for a day or so, so we don't put that kind of strain on the grid, really. I mean *I* would turn that shit on at 40C/104F and I run cold!

What is a "brownout"?

I hope you're indoors and toasty warm though.

Thanks! It's hard for me to get toasty without paying a LOT for heat in winter, but coats, blankets and hot drinks help!

Oh I agree 100%, and also with the metric system in general, but sadly I live in a place where people still use Imperial, including Fahrenheit, on a regular basis for day-to-day communication. (We do use metric, including Celsius, at work. It's so weird to me that the scientific community in the US has basically completely adopted metric - because it makes SENSE - and the rest of our country refuses to consider it. 'Murica.)

A blackout is when all power goes off for a period of time. A brownout is a somewhat milder version - sometimes as little as lights flickering, but can play havoc for some electronics.

*hugs my precious metric system*

Brownouts are dumb. Usually what will happen is all the appliances and the tv will switch off and the lights will dim and flicker like in a horror movie. When I was a kid they would usually go on a lot longer than blackouts because the power company would be like "lol the power is still on calm yo tits" and yes technically it is but it doesn't run the fridge or heat water. Cold baths in the dark for the whole family.

do your roads melt?

Apparently they do sometimes! Mostly we just get giant cracks and potholes from the road surface expanding in the heat. Some places have more potholes than road.
