It depends on the politics. I have friends who truly believe in the general 'public assistance does more harm than good, we should leave it to grassroots level private organizations' 'a $15 minimum wage will hurt the economy' 'employers should have a right to decide what hours/benefits are best for them and if they want to offer 10c an hour and 12 hour workdays with no breaks or benefits well then things will either work out for them or it most likely won't. The government sticking it's nose in there won't help anyone.'

But I dropped friends immediately over "How do we know the bitches doxxed by Gamergate didn't have it coming?" "Maybe registering Muslims really is a good idea." "Gay people should stop demanding special rights like marriage." and etc.

Basically, as long as the political difference is more about the best ways to help people and improve the world and they have different ideas on how to go about it I respect that, but as soon as they actively want to knowingly bring harm to real people then I can't be friends with them.
