It might be because you've seen more of the same type of humor in other things since then and you got sick of it. The same deal has happened to me a lot.

I'm rewatching this and yeah it is a little juvenile but hey, the show was for children all the time, so I give it a pass.

I am appreciating Sokka more though. Aang not so much.

My biggest problem with Aang is that everything comes way too easily for him, his heroes journey felt super hollow because he picks up on powers super fast and only seems to struggle at the very end of the series (and that's not a power thing but a moral thing.)

He's a cute character but I felt like the show failed to give him real growth.

Agreeing with this.

Totally agreed.

I never liked the humor, I didn't laugh once while watching it.

I also didn't love this series as much as other people seem to though. I recognize it was a big deal for television animation in the west but it's all shit I've seen before.

This is considered a huge sacrilege but now that I'm older I prefer LOK over ATLA for a few reasons, the one you listed included. I still really like ATLA but I think a lot of it didn't age well (I cannot take Azula seriously and that becomes a problem once she basically takes over as the show's central antagonist).

(I cannot take Azula seriously

Ooh, why not? Rewatching has basically made me realize just how manipulative and fucked up she was.

Adulthood doesn't really exist as one monolithic block of time though. Stuff I thought was funny 10 years ago makes me cringe now.

(Anonymous) 2016-12-16 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
This is very true. The older I've gotten the more I see younger chunks of my adulthood the same way I used to view my teenage years or childhood so my tastes have naturally changed.

And now there are people who are technically adults who I consider very young and who maybe I don't relate to as well as I would have 5 years ago.

Yeah, I don't trust anyone under 21 anymore like I used to.

Still don't trust anyone over 40 though

The humour is one of the main reasons I wasn't too amazed by Voltron either - I think the crew for that show had quite a few of the same people who also were on the team for Avatar and Korra?

Is this on rewatch? Because I'm guessing hearing the same jokes gets old.
