What single sentence made you judge your co-workers?

(Anonymous) 2016-12-16 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
"My partner's growing his hair into dreads." (said by a straight white girl with a straight white boyfriend)

"Benedict Cumberbatch is so nice in all his interviews!"

"My wife believes herself to be the victim of sexism," he said, rolling his eyes.

Oooooookay Buddy.

Lol, would it matter if the dreads people were bi or something? I don't see how sexuality changes how weird dreads look on white people.

Is Cumberbatch known for being an ass in interviews?

They had to get as many terrible things someone can be. Surprised anon didn't say straight CIS white girl.

Also, no he is not known for that because MOST actors are not known for that because part of their job is being polite after doing 40 interviews in one day.

A) sorry if it was unclear, I mentioned the sexuality thing because of the word "partner," which is fine for anyone to use but I always feel kind of suspicious of it

B) More just in general. Not the malicious kind, just the "I'm so impossibly upper-class and white I'm disconnected from reality and my best efforts at being self conscious about my position in the world come off as weird and patronizing" kind of ass

Nah, straight isn't a problem because of the dreads, straight is a problem because she called her heteronormative cisscum boyfriend a 'partner'. Like, wow, appropriating the LGBTQ struggle much?

I still don't get the hatred of dreads-on-white-people. I mean, hatred of dreads on any people, sure, because they look nasty as fuck, but why white specifically?

Re: What single sentence made you judge your co-workers?

(Anonymous) 2016-12-16 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
some hair is meant for dreads. white hair is not that hair. for white hair to go into dreads, it has to be unhealthy and dirty. This is aside from any cultural issues.

Re: What single sentence made you judge your co-workers?

(Anonymous) 2016-12-16 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Well, black people with dreads are treated differently; white people with dreads are seen in more positive terms than black people with dreads. White dreads are seen as trendy, stylish, or daring, black dreads are seen as thuggish, dirty, and ugly. Black people with dreads are told their hair looks unprofessional. They are denied jobs in some cases. People associate black dreads with drug culture and militant groups (and yes, lots of white dreaded hippies are also associated with that, but this is a black hairstyle). That is my basic understanding of the issue, at least.

I went in for an interview, and while waiting in the lobby of this school, all the middle aged white women were talking about supporting trump.

can't wait for that to bite them in the ass.

... why are you judging your coworker for what her boyfriend does? It's his hair, not hers.

Re: What single sentence made you judge your co-workers?

Because how dare white people do something to their hair that dozens of cultures in the past has done.

not going to get into the dreads argument rn but if a co-worker said something in general their partner was doing that I thought was bad and they said it in a way that sounded supportive and approving I might judge co-worker for supporting said bad thing by proxy

"Well even if you were almost broke in on, campus security shouldn't be here." -- Said by mone of the managers of the college bookstore when I worked there.

Dear god I judged the hell out of her because hello, Campus Security is supposed to be there if there's a crime or even attempted crime.

"I voted for Trump. So anyway, when my birth control failed I had to schedule my D&C with Doctor...." (If anyone is unfamiliar, D&C a medical treatment to remove tissue from the uterus. In this case, yep, that means abortion)

I dunno man...like I said I never would, but I noticed "partner" slipping in sometimes. Fact is, when you've been together for many years, and you're not like 2O anymore..."boyfriend" doesn't always feel all that suited anymore either.
