Thank you universe - someone is talking about how goddamn racist is. That's been driving me batshit for months. I remember watching it get popular for ages thinking "How is no one bothered by the "olive" (fuck you that's brown) skinned character getting dominated and enslaved and raped-into-love by the pale, blond, white skinned character overlord? Is that just, like, totally escaping everyone's notice?" I get that it's a fantasy world but this is written by a white author and this shit isn't created in a goddamn vacuum, okay, its not. But it was so popular I didn't want to start shit. I lack that energy. Bless whoever is stirring s hit for stirring it so I don't have to.

it's important to know that in the context of australian racial politics (which directly informed captive prince), pacat isn't white. she's of mediterranean descent (and damen is modeled on that also), which in australia is considered poc.

criticism of racial politics within the series is totally valid, but viewpoints need context.

Olive skin would not make someone register as POC where I live. Also, olive skin is a skin hue, olive skinned people can be very pale. Calling everyone with an olive skint one brown is kinda racist as well.

I take olive-skinned to mean Greek/Cypriot, Turkish, even Sicilian, and Middle Eastern. NOT Africans.
