I hate to say it, but you're probably going to have to get used to it.

Since the election, it's become increasingly clear that the next four years are going to be a nightmare, especially for liberals, minorities, LGBTQ folk, women, people who care about the environment, and a wide variety of other groups. And those groups have a high overlap with fandom.

For a lot of people, fandom is an outlet for creativity and expression – and when what they need to express is anger, fear, or frustration at what Trump's regime is doing, that's going to come out in their art, their fanfics, their interpretations of stories. For others, fandom is what they use to relieve stress – and some discussions of what caused that stress are likely to crop up.

I know it's not going to be pleasant to experience, but it's probably inevitable at this point. Taking away outlets from people isn't going to help, and probably wouldn't even be possible – it'd just cause fights as people push back against not being able to say what's important to them.

Probably the only way to solve this long-term is to get Trump and his Republicans out of power – and maybe their counterparts in Europe and elsewhere – and that's going to be a long, slow process. You might want to help if you can, but either way, you're probably going to have to hang in there for a while.
