I always thought that it wasn't that people in Pleasantville had powers, but that Pleasantville itself, as a magical mini-world, was empathically responding to the awakening emotions of its inhabitants. The stronger and more unprecedented the emotion/experience, the more spectacular the reaction, but as the effects snowballed the world eventually stabilised itself around the new norms.

So, if you do have Pleasantville powers, I'm not slightly concerned that either you're contacting us from within a pocket dimension, or somebody lied to me about the world I woke up in this morning.

(Actually, that latter might not be a bad thing).
