Re: Weekend (New Years!)Plans

I'm staying in on NYE, same way I have for years now. I'm ordering in, sth I usually don't do, and I've stocked up on lots of other treats. The rest of the night will be dedicated to getting ready for NY's day, because for some reason that's when my family gets together every year. And they're far away (at least, to local standards, for Americans it's probably nothing). I usually don't get back until pretty late, but this year I have to get back to my internship on Monday, so I'm leaving early.

Yeah, I always stay in (even though NY day is my birthday). I am just more of a homebody than anything. I especially hate bars and such. What is your internship if I may ask?

Me too. I don't mind going out once in a while, but the kind of partying that's expected on NYE is not my thing. And the pressure to have fun is anything but.

My internship is at a bookstore and I hate it. I volunteer at a second-hand bookstore as well and that I like, because I'm in charge of a section and you have to know about books to work there. But so far this internship has mostly been wrapping presents and stocking shelves tbh. It might get better the next few weeks, but I'm not holding my breath. It might be a good experience if I actually wanted to work in a (book)store, but I want an admin job. But apparently those are hard to get, so they arranged this at the last minute. And while I'm sure I'm learning some 'valuable life lessons', it's nothing I can put on a CV.

It should get better. Starting around the holidays is probably not the best time. It is always super busy no matter where you work.

Internships are usually for things that require higher skills, skills you can't learn unless you're actually doing the hands-on work. What you describe doesn't really sound like an internship, it sounds like an unpaid retail job. You might as well just get a job job and get paid.
