I'm so excited for the moment when the earth reaches a point relative to the sun that people have named "January 1", a series of syllables that will magically give every politician a soul, every voter a brain, and every celebrity an immortality potion.

Forcibly pushing all cynicism aside, what are you looking forward to? What good things do you think might happen this year?

I got a bottle of wine and some board games. I am ready.

I am looking forward to...some movies? In terms of the world, I don't have much hope so I am keeping my optimism local.

I'm ready for this shit-tastic bad luck leap year to be over. (Mind you, I'm sounding like a superstitious ninny here but 2012 was not a nice year for me either, nor was 2008.)

Not that I expect better from 2017 but I tend to not have the shittastic health luck after a leap year. Which considering I get a blessing on my insurance letting me have a little more vision coverage to actually GET A PAIR OF GLASSES and not just see the eye doctor...

I didn't go out on December 31st 2014, and I did go out December 31st 2015, and 2016 sucked shit way harder than 2015, so fuck me if I'm going out tonight

Currently looking forward to new experiences, more travel, meeting new people, and gaining new knowledge. And possibly being reunited with my baby kitty.

Whatever can be said of 2017, it hopefully won't get in the way of those things.

It's gonna be my mom's birthday, so I'll be looking forward to that. There are some neat movies and books coming out that I can't wait to get my hands on. I really hope I'll get into grad school this time.

I wanted to brush aside the cynicism, but I feel like every time I was thinking, "Well, this year can't get any worse," some new terrible thing came along. I don't even know if I care for 2017 to arrive. Life in general is now a giant dumpster fire that keeps on piling the shit into it even though we want it to no longer be a dumpster fire.

My cousin committed suicide, and we all found out today. Fuck 2016, but it doesn't mean much for 2017. I'm tired of tempting fate by continually saying, "Well, how can it get worse?"

I am looking forward to health insurance, which starts tomorrow! ...Being an adult is weird.

I am also looking forward to aggressively trying to lose weight for two weeks and then completely forgetting I was doing that.

But barring a series of miracles, I'm gonna just stick my fingers in my ears every time the new evil overlord gives a speech. I'll read transcripts if there's any facts that found their way in by accident, or lies that reveal some weak spot. I'm trying to be optimistic; my charitable giving usually stops at food drives and buying the occasional homeless person a sandwich and tonight for the first time I dumped $50 each on the ACLU, the Southern Poverty Law Center, and Planned Parenthood. Trying to figure out a good environmental charity to complete the set but I think I'll do that tomorrow. At least we've had more steady rain than has been common recently over the last couple of weeks. Tomorrow I'm gonna go out to breakfast, clean the kitchen and living room, and plant some bulbs and seeds. Thinking about trying straw bale gardening if I can find a good source for the straw.
