My least favorite part of that was "You're sad that the gorilla had to be killed? OMG WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU, WHY DO YOU WISH THE CHILD WAS KILLED INSTEAD?!"

AYRT - I know. I actually follow a facebook page with a lot of hardcore childfree people (who've said pretty... nasty things), and even they weren't saying that they wished the child was killed instead. No one thought that. They just wanted different measures, failing to realize that it's not like the movies where the handler jumps in and calms the animal down or a tranquilizer knocks it out instantly.

Movies and TV have a lot to 'splain for when it comes down to facts regarding firearms and their relatives.

Kinda, yes. Humans are rated Least Concern by the IUCN but Lowland Gorillas are critically endangered. Absolutely if they intervened they should have been motivated to save the rarer animal.
