Yes, but where you put the warm bodies matters. The Trio needed to do their own thing. Lupin knew that, I think. They were better off hiding and searching without having anyone else that might draw attention to them. Lupin was better used fighting the war in other places. And he went to Harry to run away from his other responsibilities.
