Maybe. My theory is they've known eachother since they were babies, used to be bathed together, never broke the habit. Everyone thinks it weird, and brings great shame to the old king, but what can they do?

Nah, they've only been friends for five years (check out the FFXV Brotherhood anime), so probably a communal bath. Your theory is cute though.

Pretty sure they're just excited to be going to a SPA. Having been to quite a few in Japan, I understand this excitement: SPAs/onsen are fucking amazing ways to spend a day and are hella relaxing. There's usually in the range of 10-20 different heated pools and saunas and things plus optional massages and beauty treatments.

You can easily waste 3-4 hours at a good one, and you tend to leave with really soft skin from all the salt baths and such.
