Re: Which fictional character's death effected you the most this year?
(Anonymous) 2016-12-31 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)I'm really not thrilled with them killing off Bruce Banner, but I'm more annoyed they had Clint do the killing.
If they had killed off She-Hulk, though--yeah, I almost dropped all my Marvel books because it looked like they were going there. So, in a way, that one, even though it didn't happen.
Re: Which fictional character's death effected you the most this year?
(Anonymous) 2016-12-31 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)It was a big thing in Marvel Comics this year.
(Anonymous) 2017-01-01 07:59 am (UTC)(link)Bruce had been de-powered.
Captain Marvel (who is in charge of the new international Alpha Flight, a sort of planetary security outfit) had a sort of not-exactly-precognitive she was working with. Precog guy had a vision of Bruce!Hulk smashing up a bunch of Avengers. So Carol grabbed the Idiot Plot Ball hard in both hands and dragged a bunch of super-heroes off to confront Bruce and, I don't know, take him into custody I guess.
Oh, also She-Hulk was in a coma at the time. In an early use of this not-really-a-precog-but-sorta's visions, Jen and Rhodey fought Thanos alongside Carol and some other heroes, Jen and Rhodey got trashed really bad, and Rhodey didn't survive.
Somehow, Clint!Hawkeye (who used to be one of those super-heroes who didn't kill) panicked and fatally shot Bruce.
Clint was tried and acquitted.
She-Hulk wakes up to find that Rhodey is dead, Bruce is dead, Clint is on trial for killing Bruce, and Carol is sort of maybe to blame. Jen goes totally post-traumatic, starts finding it psychologically painful to Hulk out.
Carol, meanwhile, has actually been using this guy with the visions to nip like several dozen crises in the bud, and it seems to be working. But Steve Rogers and Tony Stark are working against her. Jessica Drew and Kamala Khan both get annoyed with her over how she's handling it (although she and Jessica made up in the latest Captain Marvel issue). Eventually Tony ends up in a vegetative state or something (I'm not clear how exactly, but I think in a fight with Carol). Carol practically stops sleeping due to nightmares of Iron Man coming after her.
So, yeah, as a Captain Marvel fan who is an even bigger She-Hulk fan, I am getting to see two of my favorite characters go through major psychological trauma, and in different ways. But also there are fans (like the scans_daily crowd) who hate Carol now, since basically every other hero managed to end up quarrelling with her.
