I'm trying to decide which was creepier - Tarkin or Leia. I'm going with Tarkin because he had so much more screen time and it made the uncanny valley more pronounced by there being more opportunity to take it all in. Leia was mostly just creepy because I saw it the day after Carrie Fisher died.

One place I didn't mind it - Tron: Legacy. I think Clu looking kinda weird was okay for a computer program that didn't exist in the real world.

P.S. Was Peter Cushing really that tall?

He looked short because he was next to Christopher Lee in so many movies!

Leia was just unnecessary. In fact, I think that scene would have been so much better stopping at the door opening with the view of her back in the iconic white costume.
I wasn't too weirded out by that thing in Tron for the same reason (though the short scene with Tron himself looked kind of strange).

From what commentary I have seen on Tron: Legacy, Clu was not the problem, it was the memories of Flynn at the start, before he disappeared that the uncanny valley effect was not good with. Not that I cared about it personally, I think a case could be made that those were memories and Sam's memory of his father was a little unclear with time.

Am I the only one who wasn't bothered by that? Because everyone is complaining about it, and I just thought it was cool to bring those characters back and thought they did the best they could. It wasn't perfect, but it didn't distract from the movie at all for me. I was able to buy in and believe that was Tarkin and Leia.

I watched Rogue One but I'm not hugely into Star Wars and didn't remember/know Tarkin, nor knew his actor, so I had no idea he was cgi. Whenever there was a closeup, I kept thinking, "They did a weird or heavy prosthetic makeup job on this guy's face, maybe to de-age him or match him to a previous actor?" It seemed like a combo of someone struggling to emote through stiff makeup and mismatched or "off" textures. Otoh I didn't notice anything from far shots or larger movements and thought Leia was really well done, even with an extreme closeup (and that one I was aware had to be cgi).
