failures

(Anonymous) 2017-01-04 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I failed my driving test... For the second time. Parallel park this time. Each time the pressure gets more; I can't afford to keep taking the test, but I desperately need to pass, I'm currently a burden on my partner and family ferrying my ass around, I need it to take my baby to daycare, I'm so devastated and frustrated. I've been learning for two years and can do everything perfectly when it's not under test conditions. It's £120 a pop for the test and I don't have the money to throw at it again and again. I'm so gutted. The stakes rise every time I fail. Again.

What do you fail at f!s, help me not collapse under this

I failed my driving test four times. I got a new instructor who works with anxious drivers like myself and he helped me greatly. I'm like you and only got anxious during the test. A lot of people are the same and there are instructors out there who are just for us. You can do it!

I've failed the driving test three times. Now I have to renew my learners permit and retake an agonizingly boring class before I can take it again. And I have to try to deal with the same pressure you're talking about that gets worse every time.

I failed it twice and succeeded the third time.

Good luck to you!

Hey, I failed twice too. And that was back in the days where if you turned up then basically you passed. The UK driving test is really hard these days, I wouldn't be able to pass it now at all no matter how many attempts it took so don't get discouraged. Remember, your partner and family all knew you before you had a licence so you are no burden on them. They knew you needed lifts going into this. Other than that, just keep chipping away. I know of someone that needed more than ten shots at it.

I failed a few times too, just keep practicing and be sure you come to full stops (I counted to 3 at stop signs), use signals, look both ways, drive slightly under the speed limit, pretend the test person is a friend's parent (it worked for me). You'll pass it.

yeah, for me, practicing a ton was really the key to passing it - just getting it to the point where not only could I do the things required but it was completely automatic and smooth and mechanical so that even if I was up in my own anxiety over it I couldn't fuck up

That's probably not useful advice for OP though if they've been trying to do this for 2 years

I failed three times, passed the fourth. I still remember the despair I felt on the third pass. I'm so sorry.

I failed the parallel parking my first time through the test. The second time I actually went over the speed limit, which should have been an auto-fail, but the tester didn't notice (or didn't think it was worth failing me over idk).

The tester is looking not just at whether or not you CAN do the things they ask, they're also looking for whether or not you seem comfortable doing them. They want to see that you're confident. Parallel parking isn't on the test because they think it's a super useful skill, parallel parking is on the test because it shows them that you can do complex maneuvers with your car without smashing it into other people's property. It shows that you're aware of the exact dimensions of your vehicle, how sharply it can turn, where the wheels are, etc.

But it's okay to be nervous, too. You can be nervous and still seem like you know what you're doing.

This may seem like kind of an asshole-ish question, but how often are you practicing? Hopefully every day.

Where does the parallel parking portion of your test happen? If it's at some sort of facility, it might be possible to go there after hours and practice.

Failed the Massachusetts bar the first time I took it.

I failed my deiving test three times and passed it the fourth. I'm still not sure how I did it, but I did do a lot of practicing. I still hate driving though. It makes me anxious, but the public transportation here is not reliable.

I've been failing some tests I need to pass in order to go back to school. It's very frustrating because I feel like I'm studying all my waking hours and very little sticks, plus there's all that money I wasted on the tests themselves.

I failed my driving test the first two times, and passed the third. I got lessons from a teacher who specialized in working with nervous drivers.

Ugh, parallel parking is horrible! I still have no idea how I managed to pass my test considering how bad I did on it, but I just got points deducted for that part. Anyway, good luck next time!

I know you probably already know this, but getting anxious over the test won't help. Try doing some breathing exercises before the test next time, and try to keep thinking to yourself "I got this" instead of "I can't afford to fail!"

Most people fail their driving test the first time. I've never met someone who passed on the first try. For me it took until the fourth.
