Re: failures

I failed the parallel parking my first time through the test. The second time I actually went over the speed limit, which should have been an auto-fail, but the tester didn't notice (or didn't think it was worth failing me over idk).

The tester is looking not just at whether or not you CAN do the things they ask, they're also looking for whether or not you seem comfortable doing them. They want to see that you're confident. Parallel parking isn't on the test because they think it's a super useful skill, parallel parking is on the test because it shows them that you can do complex maneuvers with your car without smashing it into other people's property. It shows that you're aware of the exact dimensions of your vehicle, how sharply it can turn, where the wheels are, etc.

But it's okay to be nervous, too. You can be nervous and still seem like you know what you're doing.

This may seem like kind of an asshole-ish question, but how often are you practicing? Hopefully every day.

Where does the parallel parking portion of your test happen? If it's at some sort of facility, it might be possible to go there after hours and practice.
