Cursing!

How often do you cuss? What are your favorite curse words?

I very rarely swear out loud. I'm not censoring myself, it just doesn't come naturally to me. I do it a bit more often in writing with phrases like "fucking up", but that's about it.

A lot. I like fucksticks a lot. And douchecanoe/twatwaffle even if those technically probably don't count as swears.

The best curse word is "goddamn"

My cussing varies on the setting. At home or in adult public areas, I cuss a fuckton. At work or in mixed public settings, I rarely cuss. And if I do, it is 'Damn' or 'Hell'.

My favorite cuss word is probably fuck because of how versatile it is.

I'm a sucker for classics, I really love "motherfucker."

More often in English than in Hebrew. It's a very weird situation. In part, it's because I've written some characters who cuss a lot for a long time, and eventually it leaked into my speech. But I think the other aspect is that Hebrew is my real mother tongue, whereas English is secondary. So cursing in Hebrew feels "real" to me in a way that cursing in English doesn't. I think it's interesting the way that emotional weight can become attached to cursing - like, say, in Korean I could curse and I wouldn't "feel" the impact of it, because I didn't grow up with it. So English is a bit like that for me, though not with all words.

Not much. I feel like I did when I was a teenager, but have kind of grown out of it. If I'm drunk and being dumb and immature with my friends, it comes out, but on a day to day basis? Nah.

I cuss constantly. Probably shit and crap (does crap count?) are the most frequent just as regular words, fuck when I'm actually emphatic, Jesus/Christ/goddamn tends to be when I'm angry.

One time I hit something like 8 red lights in a row and came out with "Sweet raptor-taming Jesus!" and I was proud of that one.

All the time. I need to stop. I'm quite good at it tho, and I love all the words, heh.

I work with children so I've kind of trained myself out of cursing. :/

My grandmother never used swear or curse words in her life, on the other hands the tone of voice she used with the phrase "jam and plaster!" could blister paint off a wall at fifty foot range. It is still my goto swear, even if it isn't really a swear. All the FBC in the world doesn't come close to jam and plaster for really venting frustration. I've become my grandmother, and I don't care (because she was cool).

Waaaaayyyy too often. I've let fly in situations where I really shouldn't have. Oops.

It's just kind of a part of my vocabulary and I basically never curse for "effect" or because I'm angry or something. I'm actually more likely to throw out a fuck or two if I'm comfortable than if I'm angry.

I don't swear. It's kind of dumb, but I got used to not swearing when I was a kid, and now I feel like if I broke that habit it should be for a situation that really deserves it. I guess I haven't come across that situation yet.

I do like using "heck" in contorted ways, though.

I curse a bit, not an excessive amount I don't think though and I hold back cussing when in a setting that isn't appropriate for it(around kids, at work, etc), but apparently when I'm pissed off I loose any kind of filter and I curse up a storm over that short period.

My favourite swear-word is probably fuck because you can mix it with other words to make amusing swear-words, like fucknugget.

In text, sometimes but not as much as when speaking. I have a hard time writing conversationally, though.

On average about five times a sentence if I'm just among friends or coworkers or in public. Really a ridiculously excessive amount. I use 'fucking' in place of like/uh/ums. So it's really fucking hard to fucking get through a goddamn conversation without it fucking turning into some kind of fucking curseword shitfest. Thankfully in my field that's the norm, but I do get sometimes embarrassed by it because I really can't speak "proper" English at all.

In front of children or customers, never. This mostly means I am very quiet.

Re: Cursing!

(Anonymous) 2017-01-05 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
Very little. Once in a blue moon a curse will slip out, but otherwise I use more of those words that are obviously replacements for the actual thing like "frick" -- thanks to Scrubs and Elliot for that, hah! -- or "crap." When I'm writing I'm more liberal with curses if it's appropriate to the character.

Pretty often at home. I was actually wondering why I tended to cuss so much, and then I heard my mom cussing and remembered my dad also used to cuss too.

In front of people, never ever. I act super duper polite in front of others.

I also cuss mostly in english but that's probably because it's not my native language, so I don't really feel uncomfortable doing it.

I like fuck a lot. Also damn and damn it.

Re: Cursing!

I curse more online than I do in real life. I say crap and dang a lot, but if I'm really angry, I'll say stronger words. I also curse more in Spanish than English, but I don't think I have a favorite curse word. Maybe chingadera. I say that a lot.

Hanging out with friends, I curse a lot. At work, I'm careful because I really do like having a job.
