I mean . . . I can kinda see how the motorcycle scene and some interactions were set up as support for Otayuri, but I thought they were just teasing and didn't see any canon romantic hints. Maybe, if there's a second season, they'll become a couple and we can point to those scenes and say that's how it started, but with the way the show ended, I just can't read their relationship as anything but platonic.

Well, I know they were just teasing, but that's still canon support for shipping. Ship teasing is the writers trying to make you ship something by putting in hints, even if the ship won't be canon. The fandom people who I'm talking about are denying that the ship teasing is intentional, and that's where I definitely think they're wrong.
