I really disliked Merida (drugging your mother to get your way, nice one!), but that's an unfair comparison - I think if Merida could've been ruler on her own without being married off, that would've solved 99% of the problems she had. Still side-eye her for trusting a stranger and taking that enchanted cake to alter her mother's mind, and the way Merida seemed more worried about getting in trouble than realizing what she did was wrong.

I don't dislike Brave but that was definitely one of the parts that bothered me. Maybe it has something to do with it being two different movies smashed together thanks to the directors changing, but it made me realize how ridiculous those old fairy tales really are. It went from this grounded in reality conflict to "hey kid want a magic pie that will totally make your mom change her mind with zero side effects? you can trust me i'm an old lady with a vanishing house" or w/e.

IKR?! that was so hopelessly naive of Merida, I could not get over it. regardless of what problems she had with her mother, that is the QUEEN, you can't believe this old lady is helping you out of the goodness of her heart and not for shady purposes. O.o

it colored my view of Merida for the rest of the movie, ALTHOUGH I admit to succumbing to emotional manipulation and falling for the mother/daughter goodness in the second half. there may have been tears, lol. and in the end, I got a Merida pop because it's too cute, so Disney is the real winner here ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
