Eh, I think he could have, if he'd been able to build up a larger power base, instead of dying when he attacked the Potters.

I kind of liked it, honestly; here he is, this asshole with delusions of grandeur, and he was really, in truth, pathetic. Powerful, but pathetic.

I saw a fic once where the rest of the wizarding world was like "Okay, we'll give you magical Britain. You let out anyone who wants to leave now, and you don't mess with the outside world or any of the Muggles, but you can do whatever else you want." The Death Eaters set up their own country, then discover that almost their entire population of skilled laborers left and they are no longer capable of maintaining a functional society. Sometimes Atlas shrugs, and sometimes he drops the globe on his freaking head.

I'd love to read that fic.

Fantastic rec! I can't believe it was written nearly 9 years ago--frankly it feels like a very topical parable!

It bothers me that we don't see what effect Voldemort and the war has on the rest of British society (surely it's not possible to keep wizardry secret under those circumstances?) and how the rest of the world views the events, especially seeing as we have been introduced to foreign characters in previous books.
