I don't take anyone seriously who "lists their pronouns" and I can't take the question "what are your pronouns" seriously. I'm gay, but LGBT circles can be so cringey now.

plus like why "pronouns". if you really want people to know your gender, just put that. why not just put "dude" instead of "he/him". why do I need to know two grammatical functions of the pronouns you prefer. why not three. why not zero.

The idea is that while all dudes go by he/him, not everyone who goes by he/him is a dude. It's really so people who don't identify in the gender binary can just give you their pronouns without having to make an explicit statement about their gender or lack thereof. Some people don't want their gender known, but are giving people who want to talk about them the courtesy of telling them how to do it.

wtf. Why would you go by male pronouns if you don't identify as male? Sorry, that's where I draw the line into "stupid as fuck" territory. gender identity "outside the binary" is dumb because we should just be eliminating the importance of the binary, not making up new identities that ultimately perpetuate male/female stereotypes.

I mean I like the "listing your pronouns" thing because it's less awkward than asking or not being sure.

Same.

I'd rather use the pronouns someone prefers. It's no big deal for me, and it is a big deal for them.
