I went there two years ago and while it was a little bit tricky to find the way at times, it wasn't too bad. Of course, we were walking everywhere and didn't drive. Just get good map.

Forgot to add that it was Rome I went to.

I've been in London too, but that wasn't a touristy thing, just an all weekend workshop trip and no wandering around.

Also, instead of hotels, there's also the option of only-apartments.com or bedandbreakfast.eu That's the sites my friends and I used to rent an apartment for our stay.
