It's a way of not admitting what was really going on (and/or of maintaining the "Bernie would have won" lie)

Working class people overwhelmingly went Clinton. Poor people overwhelmingly went Clinton. People whose main concern is the economy overwhelmingly went Clinton. But if we admit that there's still a racism problem in America or the impact of the Russians and Comey in our election, everyone goes nuts.

Then who voted for Trump? I've heard it's not working class, it's not non whites, it's not woman, it's not the poor, it's not millennials. But there's definitely not enough old rich white people to make the difference even if we factor in Russia.

The white middle class and up, the evangelists, Cubans, and the enormous number of racists. It was the white middle class that was expected to vote for Clinton and didn't.

Also people whose main concern was terrorism, ironically.

Exactly. She won the popular vote for a reason.

I thought she won the popular vote mostly because of California

She got very thin margins in most of the states she lost. "It was all California and New York" is another one of those myths used to keep from trying to fix things

She didn't get my vote.
