Is the loving person generally able to draw out the stoic person, in a way that no one else can?

Pssst you should try BBC Class, the canon gay couple is a bit like that. One is less stoic and more stiff upper lip but fits your other preferences, and his boyfriend is possibly the kindest person on Earth but also knocks people unconscious with candle sticks

I will check it out! Is it more similar to Doctor Who or Torchwood?

It leans more to the Torchwood side (can be a bit gorey and there's a few sex scenes), but Twelve appears in an ep and it covers a lot of Doctor Who themes. It also takes until ep 3 to really take off, just to warn you.

Class actually reminded me a lot of the first season of Misfits so it was not at all what I was expecting from a Doctor Who teen show.

It should be everyone's jam, tbh.
