I REALLY don't get the appeal of Twenty One Pilots. The song about wanting to go back to the good old days just sounds like the anthem for people who talk about "adulting" and most of their other songs are just bland. I don't understand why people like them so much.

What popular bands or artists do you just not get?

It's rare for me to really hate any musical act - it's just not worth it, and I'm pretty comfortable with the idea that there are a lot of things that just aren't for me. So you have to give a lot of credit to Lukas Graham for pulling it off.

Nicki Minaj. I hate her voice so much. It is so shrill.

I'm not sure I've had Minaj to anything but speak, but she was so fucking nasal that I don't WANT to he a any more.

Her voice sucks and her music sucks. No idea what is appealing about her.

I also dislike her a lot. Though a big part of it for me is that I frequently find her lyrics tremendously misogynistic. Which...I mean, to each their own. It's not a big deal, and I'm not going to, like, go out and try to convince other people they shouldn't like her. I'm just saying that it's something about her that has always really put me off.

Beyoncé, Rihanna, Florence and the Machine, Katy Perry, just to name a few. Can't stand any of their music.

I like a lot of older Rihanna stuff but I don't get why so many people think Anti was a sleeper hit.

Totally agree. I don't get why people seem to worship her. Her style seems okay, her music seems okay even I'm not into her recent stuff. If she's iconic I don't know what she's an icon of.

I don't really get the appeal of Twenty One Pilots myself (even if it's supposed to be the anthem of my generation).

I also don't understand the appeal for Taylor Swift--all of her songs are either saccharine and shitty lovesongs, or "time to rag on the ex of the week".

They're really good pop songs OP

I don't get Taylor Swift *at all* but I find her voice completely obnoxious and I don't think she sings well at all.

Some of her songs might be okay under better singers, but that also begs the question why someone so mediocre rose so high in the first place.

Each one of these lines has a virtuosity to it - to how succinctly, eloquently, and ingeniously it captures both an idea and a feeling. If they don't move you, well okay; as with how people experience pretty much any form of art, YMMV. But we are talking about art, here. We are talking about someone with an exceptional skill to create, in a particular field and within a particular spectrum.

Lorde. Her voice grates on my ears.

She did a really shitty David Bowie tribute.

All of them, because I sort of dug myself into a obscure country/Americana/folk hole, and now don't listen to anything else.

Drake. I JUST DO NOT GET IT. It's like a joke the music industry is playing on me.

As for Twenty One Pilots, I had the same reaction as you but I listened to a podcast ep about that song and I think they've grown on me. They did a pretty solid live show on SNL too.

I don't get Drake either. He always sounds so bored to me. I want to tell him that he doesn't have to do this. He can find something he actually at least seems like he's enjoying.

I have never and will never get the love for Britney Spears, I can understand if you like(d) a few of her songs but she's never been a particularly good singer and she wasn't writing her own songs. I would have forgotten about her entirely but I'm surround by people who are really nostalgic about her for some reason and act like she was a queen.

You can also interchange this with any pop star who doesn't play instruments or write their own songs and doesn't sing very well. I want my musicians to have some actual MUSICAL talent, not to just be mediocre products presented to me.
