I care about Inu Yasha! In fact, I'm still active in fandom, despite how much it has calmed down from its heyday.

My feelings about this have changed over the years and as I've gained more life experience. I've never forgotten my first love, but that doesn't mean the others I have loved after, I did so any less. So I could make my peace with the whole Inu Yasha/Kikyou/Kagome thing.

I know logically the reason Inu Yasha could cry at Kikyou's death is because he cried for Kagome first (even though it was just a welling up, after the Inu-tachi were exposed to Mukotsu's poison), but I do admit to still feeling more than a little miffed that Kikyou got two canon kisses, and if you go by the manga, Kagome didn't get any at all! At least the anime did its best to even the score.

To take a page from fandom (especially the IY/Kagome contingent), this may or may not help, but: my headcanon reason that Inu Yasha was even attracted to Kikyou is because Kikyou is Kagome.. just an earlier, as-yet-incomplete incarnation. Kagome's soul needed to go through whatever reincarnation cycles taught that soul true love and compassion before she could be the person Inu Yasha needed by his side (or, in his own words, that he was born for). So it's really Kagome Inu Yasha's been in love with this whole time.

Convoluted? Yes. But it makes sense to me, and soothes my shipper heart.

Okay it's been a while since I watched Inu Yasha, but didn't Kikyou already have those traits when she was first alive???

Like yes as the result of her death/resurrection she gets very cold but I always thought she was supposed to be very different before those events and was a very compassionate person. She even helped people when she was still being generally cold in the series.
