Do you like your job?

(Anonymous) 2017-01-24 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Does it make you happy or bring you joy? Or rather, are you happy doing what you're doing?

I like the nonprofit field I'm in, and the actual tasks I do are not painful. It's a desk job, but not black-suit-everyday, and while I have lots of responsibilities I do have some flexibility as well. I also get to go to cool events and meet important people in the field.

But.

My boss sucks, I'm constantly taken advantage of and paid a humiliating wage, so yes, there is hate involved. The organization is a mess, even for a nonprofit, and I have to fight to claim virtually every benefit I was promised when I took the job. I'm job hunting right now, can't wait to hand my boss my resignation letter.

Nope.

It's not a chore, and I can do it well enough, but I'm very much a work to live rather than live to work sort

Eh. I wish I worked somewhere else but it is a living.

No. I enjoy the field well enough, but not my current job. I was thrown into a mess of a situation with very little training and high expectations. I'm floundering about as best I can, but it's a frustrating situation. Plus the culture at work is very conservative, which doesn't really jive with my own beliefs.

I'm currently looking for a new job, but while I'm an awesome worker and competent, I have to admit my resume doesn't look the best. I do well once I get to the interview process, but it's hard to get there.

Absolutely not. I do not like the company I work for and the job itself. It is so menial (I'm an operator). The only good thing is I can pretty much be on my phone all day. I've read so much manga and fic.

I recently got a job sewing clothes and I like that I'm making things. One of the best things I ever discovered was how much I love being able to point at something tangible and say "this is what I did today". Makes me feel productive.

I like it okay, but it's very boring and repetitive. The benefits are pretty great, but who knows if they'll stay that way.

I absolutely adore my job(cosmetologist!), and most of my coworkers, but the ones I don't like I REALLY don't like and even the ones I do can be difficult to work with. And I really don't live in the right area to excel in my field.

It doesn't bring me joy. It's easy enough and it pays the bills.

I feel like I'm one of the few who love their job. I really love my boss, he's the best and my hours are standard 40 hours but I work early and live close to work so I have plenty of time to myself in the evenings.

I wouldn't say it makes me happy, but I get a really weird sense of satisfaction out of keeping the financials neat and tidy, and I've developed an artistic pride in my spreadsheets. WHAT, I ASK, IS THE POINT OF CREATING A SPREADSHEET IF IT IS NOT BEAUTIFUL AS WELL AS FUNCTIONAL?!

Re: Do you like your job?

I definitely do! It's not perfect and there are things about both my job and my industry that I don't like and there are bad days, but overall I really love it. It keeps me interested, keeps me thinking, and keeps me learning. There are opportunities for creativity. There is both outdoor physical labor and indoor sit-down work. New things come along all the time to challenge me, while things also come along that allow me to make use of what I've learned from past projects. I also really like most of the people I work with and other people I've met in my field.

No, my job is completely useless, drains the fire out of me and it makes me feel like I'm living in a Chekhov play. But I like the field I'm in, I make enough money to live on and I have good benefits, I like most of the people I work with, and my office is less than a mile from my apartment.

No. I'm proud of my work, but I feel overburdened and undervalued. No matter how much effort I put in, I'm still not good enough.

I like it all right. It's very routine which would drive some folks nuts, but it means for the most part I know what's going on and feel on top of things. My boss is great and I can talk shop with my co-workers okay, but I like that I'm in a work suite pretty much all day and I don't have to be around people for any extent of time.

While I'm okay with my job, it's not where my career aspirations lie and there's no real advancement opportunities. I'd like to stay in the company because I like it there and think it'd look pretty good on a resume, and my boss is super encouraging of setting up job shadows in other areas, but I haven't figured out where I want to go and worry even if I did that I'd be unqualified. I'm sticking there for now because my living situation is very much linked to other family members and I don't want to be out of work and unable to support them, but I'm also afraid if I ever do leave that my career prospects will be nil.

I don't like my job, but I also have a semi-debilitating anxiety disorder, so I basically find obligations of any sort to be somewhere between "unpleasant" and "this feels like it might kill me one of these days."

That said, my job...is kind of cool. If it weren't for the unpredictable hours, the hellishly early call times, and the fairly shitty pay, it would be pretty awesome. And since I may be able to work my way up to a higher wage, the biggest of those drawbacks is...possibly surmountable? Kind of? (It's complicated.)

Yes, for the most part.
