I know nothing about this so maybe this would make more sense if I did, but right now I'm not seeing why it's a problem that people would have different opinions about the awards if something different had won. Isn't that pretty much true of all awards?

Crunchyroll had an anime awards poll. Yuri on Ice, the new fandom darling about figure skating with a canon gay couple, pretty much swept the awards and people are PISSED. Like, making tons of reaction videos and tumblr posts and stuff pissed.

Personally, I felt that the categories were pretty narrow. They only had a few options per category that left quite a few good shows out in the cold, but come on. It's a fan poll. Of course the fandom darling is going to sweep the polls!

The main one that pissed everyone off was that it was even nominated for 'best animation' (over shows like 'Hibike! Euphonium' which has pretty flawless animation) because the animation was kinda average and also about 50% of the show was re-used animation of the same skating routines.

Also there's some salt at the fan's reasoning on this which is basically "but 'Yuri on Ice' tried really hard so it should get the award over shows that succeeded in having perfect animation because those were made by studios that always do great animation!" which is ...iffy reasoning at best.

Anyone made about the candidates in the categories need to look at Crunchyroll, not their fellow fans who voted. I mean, if your favorite is in a category, even an undeserved one, most people are going to vote for it just cause.
