Well, in the 1990s, that WAS an exotic food to a lot of people.

(Anonymous) 2017-01-31 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
I worked at Burger King in the 80s and they were putting it in their salads, so no.

(Anonymous) 2017-01-31 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
No one knew what that was in my neighborhood until the mid-2000s...

(Anonymous) 2017-01-31 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
I have a real hard time believing this. Back in the 80s, the only time I saw kale was to prettify up the ice in salad bars.

(Anonymous) 2017-01-31 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
I find it hard to believe that kale was that unknown in the US when it's a staple food everyone's grandma cooks in many parts of Europe. Am I really supposed to believe that all those Americans with German grandmas never ate kale?

(Anonymous) 2017-01-31 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
If it was harder to find a lot of those german grandmas probably just switched to something else. My oma has never made kale.

Um, kale wasn't exactly a majorly used green back then, so...yeah. It was exotic.

(Anonymous) 2017-01-30 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Kale or chard?

(Anonymous) 2017-01-30 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
looks more like kale, its got the smaller ruffled look

(Anonymous) 2017-01-31 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Kale.

If you're from Betazed, kale is an exotic Earth plant to you!

(Anonymous) 2017-01-30 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd rather eat raw kale than have to sit through that scene with Troi explaining how she eats chocolate. Only slightly less awkward than when Monica went over the female erogenous zones on Friends. It's still less awkward than old candle fucker Crusher, though. That show did not know how to write women.

(Anonymous) 2017-01-31 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
"old candle fucker Crusher"

I LOLed. But tbh, I love Dr. Crusher. Troi slightly less thanks to the meh writing and slightly underwhelming acting.

That awkward moment when 1990s Trek food looks like 2017 supermarket produce...

... in rural Tennessee no less.

(Anonymous) 2017-01-30 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Kale can fuck right the hell off.

(Anonymous) 2017-01-31 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
hahaha, omg you're right.

Cannot now unsee, but then… it's TNG.

This is a great secret. A+

Until 2013, basically the only reason anybody in the US ordered kale in bulk was because Pizza Hut

[personal profile] sparrow_lately 2017-01-31 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
used it to line their salad bars. Decoratively. Fun facts!

Don't kale shame them

(Anonymous) 2017-01-31 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
ok?

(Anonymous) 2017-01-31 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
Fuck kale!
