I think the reason is you're viewing it as an adult and not the way a kid would. I can take any piece of children's media and do this. Like, Dora the Explorer. Why is she wandering around in the forest when there are evil foxes and trolls and who knows what else lurking around? I'm really worried about Dora. But a 5 year old identifies with her thinks about how fun it would be to go on adventures like that. It's the same thing with the Baudelaires. They're the heroes of the story and heroes go into danger and fight monsters and face struggle at every turn, and if they didn't they wouldn't be interesting or fun. And I promise you, kids already think about what would happen to them if they lost their parents, if they were placed with an evil guardian, etc. Just look at Cinderella, usually the first story kids learn.

But anyway, (as someone who loves the series) I don't think it's anything to be embarrassed about. People dislike things for all kinds of reasons, sometimes no reason at all and you don't have to justify yourself to anyone.

The scenes where the adults (Mr. Poe especially) don't listen to them is super frustrating, but goddamn if that wasn't what it felt like to be a kid.

AYRT - I dunno if you read the books but Mr. Poe seems even worse to me in the show. Like in the books he was just an idiot but in the show he seems legitimately selfish and uncaring. It's been a while since I read the books though.

Nayrt but Mr. Poe is frustrating in the show but it really helps like if the anon said you keep in mind that it's supposed to relate to children and how children feel frustrated when they aren't being heard. There was a whole spiel in the book and show about how the children felt the adults were useless because they were brushed aside "because the adults are talking." As a kid that really connects, but as an adult it bothers you because you because you can think on it on a deeper level while a kid just goes yeah that's how I feel. I know intended for kids doesn't mean adults can't read or enjoy, but there is some context that needs to be taken into account.

The cheeky tone of the show helps too illustrate the over the top behavior of it all too.

lol - that anon was me, so IA I was just talking about my personal annoyance with Mr. Poe like in the book he was just useless but watching the show with my gf (who didn't read the books) I was like "WOW Mr. Poe is a dick"

Oh whoops lol. This is why I should lrn2rd but in agreeance. Mr. Poe is beyond frustrating in the show to the point where I feel they forgot that while he may have been misguided and a bit dense I never thought of him as having anything but the kids best interest at heart while the show is just. Lemme hand these kids off and not care. But maybe he was always like that and I had a wrong read on him as a kid.

No worries! Yeah, I've been meaning to re-read the books since the show was announced so maybe I'll be surprised lol.
