Agreed, OP. I can see the point of warning for things like explicit sexual content and/or assault, but the sheer number of warnings these days is mind boggling. Especially the ones that just... well, they're spoilers! But so many people think it's a huge deal if they aren't told ahead of time every single thing they might not want to read about, even the mundane stuff.

I've even seen people on FS say this, like oh, I don't have much time so I need to know EXACTLY what the fic is about before I commit to it. Seriously? Occasionally bumping into fics you don't like is just how life works, this is like expecting to eat at restaurants every day but never having a mediocre or bad meal. People talk as if accidental exposure to a meh fic is a huge imposition rather than a minor and inevitable inconvenience.

I feel like people have come to talk about experiences in general this way.

Have they? If so, I'd like to know their secret because I think my life is pretty good but I haven't been able to avoid the occasional crap novel, crap TV show (or episode), mediocre meal, unexpectedly bad traffic, etc. etc. I'm baffled as to how people manage to avoid disappointing experiences that waste their time.

That's the thing -- they can't avoid it, and they seem to actively resent that fact.
