I don't know if I'd call it a plot hole exactly but a lot of the characterization that JK Rowling based major plot points in Harry Potter on doesn't really hold up and it's frustrating (looking @ Snape and Peter Pettigrew in particular).

Yeah, the wonky characterization was my biggest problem with the series. Snape gets it worst of all by far, but everyone suffers to some extent.
