How do you motivate yourself to do things you don't want to?

What is hardest to motivate yourself to do?

Work out. When I actually do it, I feel great, like I've accomplished something, and then there's all the health benefits. But getting up off my ass and doing it, I really, REALLY have to push myself.

Ugh it's so hard isn't it? Like, logically I know I'll feel awesome the more I do it, but actually getting off my but and doing something seems impossible some days.

Yep, and my depression doesn't help. I usually just put my work out clothes on and get started, and most of the time that's all I need to do, but sometimes I have to tell myself, okay just try ten minutes and if you still aren't feeling it then stop. After ten minutes I can do ten more, then ten more, and so on, but once in awhile I'm really not feeling it so I stop. But yeah, just finding the motivation in the first place can be the real struggle.

I have issues with that as well, but I find working out *so boring.*

The times I've been in better shape are when I was just going out more (sometimes working out on top of that) I find it a lot easier to go on a walk or ride a bike then to workout indoors (though now I don't have a bike and I'm afraid to ride in traffic anyway.)

I need to draw every day, but the crippling fear of failure is pretty hard to overcome sometimes lmao.

to be perfectly honest, 95% of motivation for me is just what kind of mental headspace I'm in. if i'm in a good place, i don't need tricks; if I'm in a bad place, tricks won't really work.

Checking email. I have three different work emails to check every day, and I get ridiculous anxiety about it ("ridiculous" both in the sense of high levels, and in the sense of "I know this is a dumb thing to get anxious about"). Just yesterday I set up two daily alarms on my phone to remind me to check it--I figure if I get an electronic nudge a couple times a day and have to actually take steps to get rid of the banners, etc., I'll be able to make myself do it more regularly.

I usually use clothing as a motivation. If you do ___, you can buy that sweater. I find exercising the hardest to motivate myself over.

I just do it. Motivation is not its own entity that crosses a person's path by mere chance imo

I can usually (eventually) kick myself in the pants to get out of bed on weekdays (which I despise doing) because getting paid is a pretty big motivation to go to work. Otherwise...if it's an unpleasant task, I break it down into small parts and reward myself/take breaks.

Remind myself that if I fail I will have very big debts and very little in the way of contingency plans to pay them.

Works every time.

It's hard to find the motivation to cook myself a decent meal instead of just going to instant noodles or ordering Chinese or something. It's not the cost or anything, it's just the effort that's hard. :/

Chores. I fucking HATE chores. But It's usually me just finally going "ok, this is icky, need to CLEAN." Otherwise...even I don't have anything that really helps me to motivate myself. :/
