Utena! With more canon gay. I liked the movie for the most part, but it was also a little too nuts.

I thought the original series was excellent so I don't know that I'd want a remake.

The movie was a mess but it's canon is different then the series anyway.

The original is excellent, but I think some of it is dated. Some of the scenes with the stupid monkey pet thing grind at me as very 90's kid humor, for example. Some of the characters get a little too campy, too. I think it could be reworked a little and paced just a little better in a 2010s remake.
