She was absolutely detrimental to Light, but she and Light, I would argue, were mutually destructive to each other. She was a risk to his entire operation and more than willing to kill to get her way, and he was more than willing to do whatever it took to keep her on his side, not just because she could send everything tumbling, but because she was a tool for him to use.
