That's a really interesting question re:which pairings would be popular today.

Considering the current fandom trends, I guess there would be a huge amount of pedo wank for any pairing featuring Omi or Nagi.

Weiß/Schwarz pairings would probably have "abusive relationship" drama but I think Schuldig/Aya could be even more popular than it was back in the day.
Not sure if the juggernauts would be less popular now though because I can see Yohji/Aya still being a favourite and Ken/Omi as the pair-the-spares runner-up. It's true that it never really was about what made sense, but that hasn't exactly changed.

I think a remake could be done with a redesign that's not as massively different from the originals as the Glühen designs were. I mean what the hell was up with that insanely long braid?
Imo, Weiß Side B had fairly acceptable designs for Aya and Ken (I don't remember if Yohji and Omi appeared in a flashback).
