I've sort of gone back and forth on this. I'm very much of the "the personal is political" mindset. I think the divide between "politics" and "not politics" is often artificial. But at the same time, there are times when I just need a break from all things Trump and if people are shorthanding that as "politics" I'll deal with it.

I agree wholeheartedly with this, and don't argue against escapism in the least. I'm just consistently surprised that people seem to think one can consume media in a way that is entirely apolitical. I can only speak for myself, but since I have a body that isn't allowed to be apolitical (to get a little postmodern continental feminist philosophy about it all), my consumption of media could never be apolitical either. I also find it weird that people seem to think any media can be apolitical? Which I suppose is an offshoot of the privilege I'm talking about.
