Topping/Bottoming Subs/Doms

(Anonymous) 2017-02-16 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
What characters do you prefer to read as topping or bottoming? OR If you are into BDSM what characters do you prefer as a sub or dom?

Or do you have no preferences?

Re: Topping/Bottoming Subs/Doms

No preference.

Depends on the actual characters and their chemistry. I can usually go either way. Versatile, as they say.

And okay I'll be honest, it depends on the fandom because I'm a contrary old lady and if the fandom is 99% one way I'll find myself shipping it the other way and getting fed up and frustrated.

Hah! Me too. I always seem to like the sub to be the one that fandom wants to dom. :/

In general I have no preference, but there are some characters/pairings I have preferences for.

Dean Winchester subs. I'm fine with topping or bottoming as long as he's the sub.

Spike from Buffy is also a sub. Again, don't care about top or bottom as long as he subs.

Mairon/Sauron is a switch who will try just about everything once. With most people he tops and doms. With Melkor he subs and mostly bottoms (other than a couple occasions of experimentation. With Celebrimbor he mostly doms and tops, but sometimes his sub urges come out and he'll sub. And also sometimes he'll dom but bottom.

Melkor doesn't submit ever. Except with Mairon that one time when he was drunk. He also generally doesn't bottom. He's pretty much Mairon-sexual though except when it comes to prisoners.

Maedhros, if he isn't completely asexual post-Angband imprisonment, never bottoms again. Too much horror was done to him. The only way I can imagine him having sex is if he is on top and in control.

Galadriel and Celeborn are both switches, though I tend to see her as a bit more dominant. But honestly I think the two of them trust each other completely and like to experiment. Galadriel especially seems the type to want to try new things.

Luthien doms and Beren subs. I can't see them any other way, honestly. And I like the idea of Aragorn subbing and Arwen domming, though I'm not as set in stone on that.

Kylo Ren is a sub who wants to be a dom badly. But he can't stop his own urges because he's a complete sub. Hux is a dom who wishes he was asexual because anything that takes away from his duties is a waste of time to him. And yet he can't help his urges, so he takes it out on Kylo.

I don't care either way who tops or bottoms. But I LOVE Steve Rogers, Stiles, and Castiel as subs.

I ran into a problem back in TW fandom because I shipped Derek/Stiles and love some D/s but saw both of them as subs. Especially Derek. Fandom did not like that.

I think I've seen more Derek as sub than Stiles. Mostly because fandom seems to like the 'tough guy' to be the sub. Then again, I've not read Teen Wolf actively in a while.

Steve/Bucky is one of those pairings where I don't have any preference of either position or role. But I do like to see Steve in the Sub role because it is a switch from the usual expectations.

I can see Cas sub if I am reading him with someone other than Dean. But I'm so sold on my interpretation of Dean as a sub that I can't read him domming anyone.

I very rarely care at all, like I've got a vague preference for Steve Rogers bottoming but it's not enough of one to make or break fic for me. So long as I enjoy the writing I don't care what the roles are.

Best fandom for a variety of Dom/sub fic?

MCU I've found is pretty good when it comes to Slash (except when it comes to Thor who doesn't sub enough for my taste). Het not so much as there isn't nearly enough femdom.

The Buffy fandom is pretty good. I've seen all sorts of dynamics.

Usually, I like my favorite characters to bottom, especially with whoever I ship them with. I am a multi-shipper and there are a few dynamics where I want that person to top, but it's usually not with the person I want my fave to end up with in the end.

I usually don't really care. I skip most sex scenes anyway, unless they're really plot-heavy. The only thing I try to actively avoid is bottom!Bucky in Stucky fics since I find it sort of creepy. And I actively seek out bottom!Thor in Thorki fics, but I like it reversed too.

I'll read anything and don't really have preferences, but I think Shawn Spencer leans more towards submissive & I think the context of their marriage, Monica Geller & Chandler Bing engage in a bit of dom/sub stuff wherein Chandler's the dom. See: Monica's nickname for him being Mr. Big while they're dating, and also Monica's OTT high strung personality where Chandler admits that she's high maintenance, but that that's okay because "I kind of like maintaining you." So I think more often than not, he takes the reigns in the bedroom. I don't really read fic for F.R.I.E.N.D.S., but that's what I envision when I think about their relationship. I think Monica's sexually submissive as a release from being so dominant in every single other area of her life.

And now I'm hearing Joey's "Dude, are you EVER on top?!" regarding Chandler's bed head in an entirely diffferent light.

I don't tend to dabble too much in this end of things, but one thing I have noticed is that with certain ships I have a fondness for the physically weaker of the pair being physically submissive but emotionally dominant, especially in cases where there's a significant power disparity. I like the feeling of 'you may be stronger than me, but you have me right now only because I allow it'. I like this a lot with characters who are physically fragile and/or in a weaker social positions, though it probably shows up most in my enemy ships, with fragile-but-manipulative villains and their powerful-but-vulnerable heroes.

I guess if I think about it, in most of my ships, my preference is for the older partner to top/dom (not that one has to indicate the other?)

I love Jim Kirk as a bottom and I just see McCoy as a top. Same with Clint (bottom) and Coulson (top). Eggsy from Kingsman is a total bottom. Harry's a top to Eggsy but a bottom for Merlin. (Merlin just strikes me as a top, no matter who he's with. Unless Roxy's pegging.)

I didn't even realize it until I thought about it.

I generally don't have a prefrence. Well, only for Doctor Who (the Master always tops).

Re: Topping/Bottoming Subs/Doms

Well, when I was deep into Ace Attorney fandom, I preferred Miles Edgeworth to be on top and Phoenix Wright to be on the bottom. Mostly because the fandom loved and preferred it the other way around, and also that's just how I interpreted Miles' character? But I didn't mind them switching too.

For the most part I don't mind the characters switching, although in my last fandom I couldn't stand one of the characters on bottom just because someone I really disliked was grossly fetishizing about it. It just killed any love I may have had for it that way. :/

Generally, I tend to prefer switchy/versatile dynamics, and I REALLY like it when the person who is running the fuck is the one being penetrated.

This might be projection on my part; I'm usually a cis woman (and when my gender does the thing I'm not at all interested in sex because dysphoria) so if I'm with a guy I'm generally the one being penetrated, but I'm also pretty toppy.

There are a few characters that I've got a strong headcanon about (Dean Winchester is the subbiest sub that ever subbed, the Fifth Doctor is a Power Bottom, and Hector Barbossa is never going to let Captain Jack Sparrow bugger him, even if there is a part of him that wants it) and sometimes after I've read a few fics in a row where one partner is topping, I'll go looking for one where he's the one bottoming, but in general, if it's hot, I don't care who is doing what to whom. And let's not forget about the whole range of non-penetrative sexual activities...

Generally speaking I don't care very much, and in some cases I can't imagine the characters actually having a preference (i.e. I feel like Viktor and Yuuri would be 100% switch). But with my latest favorite pairing, Noctis/Prompto from FFXV, I have a very strong penchant for top/dom!Noctis and bottom/sub!Prompto. Like. Very strong. I mean, Prompto's basically Noctis' puppy anyway, so it just works for me, lmao.

Supergirl: I think Kat/Kara would be hella hot for service d/s play with minimal humiliation or sadism.

Beyond that, I lean to everyone as versatile.

For some weird reason, I prefer the characters I like best bottoming. I don't mind if they switch occasionally and I won't disgustedly backbutton if they top, but bottom (or rather, my favourite, topping FROM the bottom) is my definitive preference.
