It throws me out of the story to have a really American character thinking/talking in a different (British) dialect. Like Tony DiNozzo from NCIS would never say that he was going to go get something from the boot of a car instead of the trunk. (Which I saw in a fic. Among other things I've seen in fics.) And vice versa, as I wouldn't expect a British character to think/talk in an American dialect.

Tony would totally say he was getting something from the boot as long as he was quoting a movie. Or pretending to be James Bond.

If he were quoting a movie or playing a character, because he can overact like that. Not when he is supposedly being him, though, as he was in the fic. It wasn't the only thing, but just one of a few things that pulled me out of that fic.
