It just feels like I'm half of a creative person and I don't know if it's even possible to wake up the other half.

You're gonna hate this answer, but it's literally just: practice. You kind of have to force it at first. Just starting out, write a "fic," but make it an AU. It will give you practice writing outside the forms you're familiar with. When you're comfortable doing that, branching into your own stuff will come more naturally. Or, you can do what I did, and pick up a book of prompts and do writing exercises.
