Well, it definitely sounds like the big problem you're having is coming up with characters that you want to write about? Is that fair? Cause with plots, you obviously are coming up with plots. I don't think plots really stand or fall by their fanfictional nature.

With regards to characters, I'd just say, really try and think about what characters you like writing about, and how they inspire you, and what's interesting about them, and then develop those ideas.
